A Rare Collection of Little Leather Library Books by Charles Dickens

The Little Leather Library was a popular series of books published during the early 20th century that featured the works of renowned authors in leather-bound editions with decorative slipcases. This particular collection consists of seven volumes, each featuring a work by the celebrated Victorian author Charles Dickens.

Internally, the books are generally firmly bound with only a touch of strain at the title page of 'The Old Curiosity Shop' and a hinge starting to form at the title page of 'Hard Times'. The ownership inscription is present on the front blank pages of 'Barnaby Rudge', 'Our Mutual Friend', 'Hard Times', and 'Little Dorrit'.

The slipcases, bound in crushed morocco with one exception being cloth-bound, show signs of wear, particularly around the edges. However, they remain structurally sound. The spines of the books have suffered some rubbing, most noticeably on 'The Old Curiosity Shop' and a few instances on the others. Externally, the smart spines are slightly faded as one would expect.

The collection is presented in its original full morocco binding with a slipcase for each volume. Additionally, it features illustrations throughout the books, including seven plates in 'Our Mutual Friend', nine plates in 'Hard Times', seven plates in 'Little Dorrit', and single frontispieces or five plates in the other volumes.

Charles Dickens (1812-1870) was an extremely celebrated author during his time, known for documenting the social conditions of Victorian England. His works continue to be immensely popular today, offering a unique glimpse into the past.
